Dee Dee’s Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken

Fried chicken was by far my favorite meal growing up and my mother was the best at making it. She was raised in the hills of Kentucky and migrated further south in her later years with my father to Louisiana where my four siblings and I were born. No one was late to dinner the nights mom made fried chicken!

2 1/2 to 3 lb chicken parts or pieces


2 to 3 c buttermilk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp seasoning salt


3 c self rising flour
2 Tbsp seasoning salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp hungarian paprika
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
