Aussie Meat Pie

This humble pie became a regular in Australian pubs in the mid-1800s. Today, millions of pies are gobbled up each year around the country. The filling for this pie is slow-cooked casserole style so if you’re short on time, prepare it earlier.

Aussie Meat Pies


2 pounds chuck beef

½ cup plain flour

3 Tbsp vegetable oil

2 white onions, finely sliced

2 cloves garlic, finely sliced

1 cup red wine

4 1/2 cups beef stock

1 Tbsp Worcestershire

2 Tbsp cornflour

4 Tbsp water

2 sheets puff pastry

1 egg, beaten
